Weather and erosion have produced a wide range of landmarks here. Drive north via Siaoyeliou, Dulan, Tunghe Bridge (where you may see wild monkeys), and Sanxiantai. Sanxiantai is reached by crossing the appropriately named Eight Arch Bridge. The island of Sanxiantai (which translates to Three Immortals Terrace) has three large rock formations and, legend says, was visited by three of the eight Immortals from Chinese mythology. The road is carved into the sheer rock walls winding past forested peaks and cliffs towering thousands of feet above, while a river roars past gigantic marble boulders hundreds of feet below. Stops will be made at Swallow Grotto, Changchun Temple, and Shakadang Trail. You will travel back to Taipei with a stop at Qingshui Cliff, and pass through Syue-Shan Long Tunnel (12.9 kms).
