Day 3: Monday 4 May 2020                                      Texas Rabbit Factory & Coolmunda Organic Olives

Depart Goondiwindi and cross the state border to NSW and Boggabilla, then head east along the Bruxner Highway and back into Queensland near Texas for morning tea before visiting the “Rabbit Factory”. Built in 1928 the Texas Rabbit Works is the last rabbit processing works remaining in Australia. The business ceased operation in 1992 but during the period between 1930 and 1960 this was a thriving industry when rabbits were in plague proportions throughout the district. Employing 33 people and processing 6,000 rabbits a day the rabbit works was a major business in the district. From here, head north to Inglewood where we enjoy lunch at the Royal Hotel before visiting Coolmunda Organic Olives. Coolmunda is an organic olive farm producing a variety of olives to make olive oil and to eat naturally. The climate, so typically Mediterranean, allows the farm to experiment with different types of olives and they’ve planted Greek, Spanish and North African olives which all thrive in the Australian soil. Our three-day Goondiwindi Getaway draws to a conclusion as we return to Toowoomba via Karara and Leyburn. Meals: BL
