Day 1: Tuesday 23 June 2020
HOME - BATHURST

Welcome to our 11 Day adventure to Griffith and Mildura featuring the magnificent Mungo National Park. Commence with flight from either Toowoomba or Brisbane to Sydney where you board your luxury 4WD touring coach.  Sit back and relax as we head west through Katoomba in the Blue Mountains. At Echo Point, we witness the dramatic views over the iconic Three Sisters and into the valley of the stunning Blue Mountains. We enjoy afternoon tea before arriving in Bathurst, where our hotel is located on the Mt Panorama Race Track so before we check in, we’ll go for a “spin”. Meals: D

Day 2: Wednesday 24 June 2020
BATHURST

We are introduced to the town with a local guide who will unlock the past and present of one of Australia’s oldest inland cities. The Victorian era streetscape is relatively intact and there are some impressive buildings. We visit Chifley House – the only home of the great Australian Prime Minister, Ben Chifley and his wife Elizabeth during their marriage. The house contains its original collection of household furnishings and personal effects dating back to when the Chifley’s first occupied the house in 1914. Next, we make our way to the stunning castle-like mansion, Abercrombie House. With its mixture of Gothic and Scottish baronial styles, it has been acknowledged as one of the finest historical mansions in Australia. We enjoy lunch, a tour and time to wander the grounds. Our final appointment is at the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum which will be truly fascinating. Here one man’s passion become Bathurst’s greatest treasure as we wander the extraordinary collection of Professor Warren Somerville, including a full Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton. Meals: BLD

Day 3: Thursday 25 June 2020
BATHURST - GRIFFITH

This morning we travel to Cowra, the town made famous by the POW Camp located here during WWII and the infamous “Cowra Breakout”. Here we visit the information centre to watch the incredible hologram presentation. We enjoy lunch at the Japanese Garden Cafe before continuing to Griffith, our home for the next two nights. Meals:  BLD

Day 4: Friday 26 June 2020
GRIFFITH

At the Visitors Centre, we can wander through the interpretive display telling the story of Griffith from the development of the irrigation scheme through to the wonderful regions produce. Here, we meet our local guide who joins us on the coach for a town tour. Nearby is the McWilliams Hanwood Estate where we have a delightful wine tasting. We enjoy lunch and a stroll at a wonderful local garden before a visit to Catania Fruit Salad Farm. The family owned business, produces a variety of fruits and nuts which we can sample on our tour. During our visit we’ll learn about the life and times of the pioneers, see how the irrigation system delivers water to the farms and how crops are grown and harvested. Meals: BLD

Day 5: Saturday 27 June 2020
GRIFFITH – MUNGO NATIONAL PARK

Today is a travel day as we head to Mungo National Park. Pack a book, take a nap or enjoy the scenery out the window as we travel through the vast Hay Pains. We stop for lunch (own expense) before arriving in the amazing Mungo National ParkMeals: BLD

Day 6: Sunday 28 June 2020
MUNGO NATIONAL PARK

Today we uncover the starkly beautiful landscape of ancient dry lake basins, sand formations and towering dunes of Mungo National Park. This area is rich with aboriginal history and significant archaeological discoveries. We take a giant leap back in time and enjoy the day exploring this remarkable location with a local expert. Walk the Walls of China, explore the historic woolshed and be amazed at the landscape from a lookout. Meals: BLD

Day 7: Monday 29 June 2020
MUNGO - MILDURA

We farewell our amazing hosts and arrive in Mildura. We visit the Australian Inland Botanic Garden, where plants from a variety of environments thrive in the regions warm, dry climate and well-drained soils. We enjoy lunch before strolling through the large rose garden and a rock garden that are featured here. We check in and have time to freshen up before dinner. Meals: BLD

Day 8: Tuesday 30 June 2020
MILDURA

We are introduced to Mildura with a local based expert for a morning of sightseeing. For our lunch break we’ll cruise along the river aboard the PS Melbourne. The cruise offers a relaxing pace through Lock 11 on the majestic steam driven paddle steamer. Commentary is provided, giving an educational insight on the Murray Darling River system and its environs and also the history of paddleboats. Back on dry land, we head to a lovely oil farm, Varapodio Estate where we enjoy a tour and tastings of their award-winning oils. Our final visit for the day is Orange World – a working 50-acre citrus property. We will enjoy a tour around the picturesque property of avocado trees, numerous citrus varieties and tree grafting areas. There is an opportunity to travel on the tractor train with undercover seating as we gain a wealth of citrus information with a juicy sense of humour. Meals: BLD

Day 9: Wednesday 1 July 2020
MILDURA - BARMERA

Our touring today begins at Australia’s largest gemstone cutting and jewellery manufactory complex, Woodsie Gem Shop and Aladdin’s Cave which has thousands of jewellery items beautifully displayed. From here we travel to the South Australian border to the tiny village of Paringa. Its here we stop at Lock 5. We then cross the Paringa Suspension Bridge to Renmark where we visit the PS Industry, which is moored here. Commissioned in 1911, the Industry once worked for South Australian Water, keeping the Murray River Open to traffic. Following a hectic work life, the steamer was retired in 1969. There is a delightful short river bank walk to the Renmark Club where we have arranged lunch. We continue onto Barmera, located on the beautiful Lake BonneyMeals: BLD

Day 10: Thursday 2 July 2020
BARMERA - ADELAIDE

We make our way to the award-winning Banrock Station. The Wine and Wetland Centre gives a panoramic view over the vineyards and wetlands, making it the perfect place to enjoy morning tea. We continue to the beautiful city of Adelaide. Lunch today is at the Adelaide Central Markets (own expense), which has been a thriving hub of food and culture since 1869. Stroll through the various produce stalls, enjoy the multicultural cuisine and discover Adelaide’s most popular cafes. We spend our afternoon with a local guide. At Monteflore Hill, we can see the spot from where Colonel Light planned a great city of the future in the sweeping valley below. Nearby is one of Adelaide’s most prominent landmarks – St Peters Cathedral, which overlooks the city from North Adelaide and below us is the recently redeveloped Adelaide Oval. We discover the inner workings of the iconic oval with a behind the scenes tour. The oval offers a unique blend of new and old, from the latest in stadium design to the heritage-listed scoreboard and the century-old Moreton Bay Fig trees. Meals: BD

Day 11: Friday 3 July 2020
ADELAIDE - HOME

We farewell South Australia today. We are transferred to the Adelaide airport after breakfast for our flight home. We arrive mid-afternoon with new friends and amazing stories from our wonderful getaway. Meals: B
