Day 1: Thursday 28 May 2020
HOME - CHARLEVILLE

Welcome to our Western Queensland Explorer. We board our flight to Charleville and are greeted with a smile from our friendly Stonestreet’s team. Our interesting day begins with a local guided tour of the town. We then uncover the Charleville mystery with a Top-Secret World War II Tour. With the help of our guide, we unlock the stories of the United States military base and how they lived when 3,500 personnel arrived in town. We enjoy dinner at our motel before a visit to the Cosmos Centre. There is nothing quite like travelling thousands of light-years into space. The guides will build our knowledge on the formation of the stars and galaxies, reveal the beauty and meaning of coloured stars and the fascination of the planets and our moon. We will enjoy nibbles and drinks before the open-air observatory viewing of the outback night sky. Meals: D
Stay: Mulga Country Motor Inn, Charleville

Day 2: Friday 29 May 2020
CHARLEVILLE - BLACKALL

If you love a great story, then here’s is one for you. Arriving in Australia penniless, pioneer Harry (Poppa) Corones, went on to build an empire and make Australian history several times throughout his life. We hear his amazing story while enjoying homemade scones at the iconic Hotel Corones. Next is the Bilby Experience. Here, our guide will reveal Australia’s native animal extinction crisis, discover the breeding program and hopefully see the unique little creatures. We enjoy lunch before a visit to Tambo Teddies. Stitched with love, we uncover that these teddy bears were originally created by 3 local women wanting to overcome low wool prices and drought. Embark on a tour through the workshop as well as discover the oldest town in the central west. This afternoon we arrive in Blackall, where we rest our heads overnight. Meals: BLD
Stay: Blackall Coolibah Motel

Day 3: Saturday 30 May 2020
BLACKALL - LONGREACH

Blackall local and legendary gun shearer Jackie Howe set the almost unbelievable record of shearing 321 sheep with blade shears in a day. A bronze statue now stands as a monument to the man and the achievement. At the Blackall Woolscour, we embrace the authentic living museum, which contains the last remaining steam operated wool washing plant in Australia and has a direct link to the pioneering era and lives of many Blackall families. Stopping in Barcaldine we discover the hectares of beautifully landscaped gardens at the Australian Workers Heritage Centre. Spending time wandering the numerous displays we’ll understand the history of the early pioneers' struggles and the evolution of Australia as a nation. We visit the Tree of Knowledge, an iconic ghost gum which earned its claim to fame as the founding site of the political movement we now know as the Australia Labor Party. We continue onto Ilfracombe where we have time to “wet the whistle” at the Wellshot Hotel. While we are here, you make like to wander along the Folk Transport Museum. The last leg of today's journey is to Longreach, a town which has played a significant role in the early development of Central Queensland and Outback Australia. Meals: BLD
Stay: Longreach Motor Inn

Day 4: Sunday 31 May 2020
LONGREACH

We are going to have a special experience as we get an insight into the area through the eyes of a local grazier and local pioneering families. We meet the owners of a local station called Strathmore and learn about their operations and challenges of operating on the land as well as enjoy a homemade morning tea. Next, we uncover some national treasures at the QANTAS Founders Museum. Through historic photographs, memorabilia and multimedia displays, the inspiring stories of the world’s pioneering airlines are brought to life. This evening we visit the iconic Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame to experience the Outback Stockman’s Show. We’ll be entertained and captivated by the skill and informative insight into stockmen past and present before a gourmet outback BBQ dinner. We’ll leave having a sense of pride in being a part of keeping the spirit of the outback alive. Meals: BLD
Stay: Longreach Motor Inn

Day 5: Monday 1 June 2020
LONGREACH

Hear the pounding hooves of the horses on the outback road and the rattle and creak of the coach. Feel like a pioneer from the past and be entertained by the only stagecoach gallop in Australia. Enjoy a stagecoach ride, photos, traditional smoko and classic Australia movie in retro cinema seats before we experience the Harry Redford Old Time Tent Show with our Billy Can lunch. Based on the traditional outback travelling shows, its hard not to be charmed by the simple delights of bush theatre. The show tells a fictional story set in the time of Harry Redford (Captain Starlight) and refers to his infamous adventures. We return to the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame to look through the museum at our own pace. Tonight, enjoy a sunset cruise and dinner on the banks of the Thomson River. Relax on the top deck of the Longreach Explorer and take in the 360-degree views of the tranquil river. Enjoy entertaining and informative commentary detailing river and cultural stories. Unwind with complimentary nibble platters and purchase drinks from the licensed onboard cash bar. As the sunset fades into starlight, we dock at Smithy’s Outback Dinner & Show for a night of great food and live entertainment under the stars. It will be a fantastic night! Meals: BLD

Day 6: Tuesday 2 June 2020
LONGREACH - WINTON

We see some dramatic and ever-changing scenery as we make our way to Winton. The area was once home to dinosaurs and is full of groundbreaking scientific discoveries and archaeological digs. We pick up our local specialist who will introduce us to some interesting sights. First, we travel to Carisbrooke Station where we’ll marvel at the natural wonders and history of this spectacular location. Next, we visit the Dinosaur Stampede at Lake Quarry Conservation Park which has preserved 3300 dinosaur footprints from 95 million years ago. We check in to your hotel and have time to freshen up before dinner. Meals: BLD
Stay: Boulder Opal Motor Inn

Day 7: Wednesday 3 June 2020
WINTON

This morning, take in the interesting sights of Winton including the Musical Fence, a wire fence that can be played as a musical instrument and the first permanent installation of its kind in the world and the Chinese Market Garden which aims to preserve the rich Chinese pioneering history in the area. We take a nostalgic trip down transport memory lane with a visit to the Heritage Truck and Machinery Museum. View the fully-restored heritage trucks, tractor, machinery and a unique collection of workhorses from yesteryear. It was in Winton that Banjo Paterson wrote his famous poem about the swagman and the jolly jumbuck and “Waltzing Matilda” was first heard in the North Gregory Hotel. We visit the Waltzing Matilda Centre, a world-class museum and art gallery with displays focusing on the Australian landscape, channel country, the women of the homesteads, livestock/wool industries of the outback and of course, the classic poem. Next, we visit the Australian Age of Dinosaurs, which is located on top of the “jump up” – a rugged mesa plateau formation that stands 75 meters above the surrounding plains. The centre hosts the largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils and the largest fossil preparation laboratory in the southern hemisphere. Tonight, unwind with a drink and nibbles as we watch the sun go down over the flat country. After the outback sunset, we settle in for a hearty BBQ feast under the stars while soaking up the amazing outback lifestyle. What an amazing farewell dinner. Meals: BD
