Top End Highlights

Situated on the edge of a harbour bigger than Sydney's, Darwin is a beautiful, fascinating tropical city, a true melting pot of people and culture. Locals prides themselves on its unique and friendly laid-back lifestyle while a sophisticated, modern city in its own right. Steeped in history and one that has endured many hardships, Darwin is now a booming gateway to Asia. Explore this wonderful city before tackling the Top End; Kakadu, a World Heritage-listed National Park with striking landscapes of contrast. Beneath waters dotted with lotus flowers, saltwater crocodiles lurk. Jagged peaks of tower over hidden pockets of monsoon rainforest and waterfalls cascade into pools fringed with paperbarks, pandanus and cycads. The ancient canyons also hold secrets and stories of our earliest inhabitants. Galleries of stunning ancient Aboriginal rock art are preserved among the natural wonders of Kakadu. Another Top End Gem that this tour explores is the famous town of Katherine. Named by explorer John McDouall Stuart in the late 1800s after the daughter of one of his expedition sponsors, the surrounding area was renamed 'Nitmiluk' which meaning 'cicada place' in 1989. Nitmiluk's Katherine Gorge are famous for great fishing, hidden natural wonders and a rich indigenous and pioneering history.
